Photography, Design and Web Review of 2012

As 2012 draws to a close I thought I would reflect on some of the brilliance of 2012 that I’ve noted in my blog posts this year. What follows is a combination of Photography, Design, Web, WordPress and even Typography goodies that I’ve blogged about.
- 2012 kicked off in Egypt and Jordan for me, with astounding pyramids and canyons I shared my thoughts on Photographing scale in Egypt and Jordan.
- I’m constantly amazed by talented photographers around the world and have found some amazing time lapse photography that is very beautiful and inspiring. Spend some time watching the natural beauty in my blog post about ‘Time Lapse Travel Photography to Inspire‘.
- World Wildlife Foundation is an amazing charity that helps worldwide. This year was their 50th anniversary and to mark this I decided to enter their Photo Challenge. While I didn’t manage to capture all the animals on their special coin, I did win an unexpected ‘Best Photo’ Prize.
- Time and time again so many people resort to stock photography for websites or low resolution phone snaps. I decided it was about time that I shared some key tips about Photographing for a website.
- Meeting those people who inspired you to learn design in the first place is a truely cool thing. 2012 saw me doing just that when I went to the Spring Festival at the British Library in London. Read more about E-motional type with world-renowned typographers and designers.
- March 2012 marked my two years since I left the comfort of New Zealand, sold everything and moved abroad to somewhere where everything was unfamiliar. Two years on… and still travelling with a camera.
- Cappadocia in Turkey is a place like nothing I’ve ever seen before. Taking my travel photography to such an unusual place gave me the opportunity to photograph from all angles in a Turkish fairytale landscape.
- Auschwitz is one of those terrible places that I decided to visit to open my eyes further to what the world is really like. I marked this by creating a narrative about Auschwitz: photographing history and its terror.
- Visiting a country I knew very little about isn’t something new for me, but Bosnia really hit me hard as I learned about the War in Bosnia and Genocide in Srebrenica.
- One of the most stand-out events of 2012 across the world – London 2012 Olympic Games: A kiwi perspective.
- Back in August I gave my first presentation in a long time (possibly since my days of being a University Ambassador). I presented at the London WordPress Group at the Google Campus and gave a presentation about Designing for WordPress and Web Design: Bridging the Gap between Design and Development.
- Given that I use WordPress on a daily basis I felt it could be useful to share some of my favourite resources when I blogged about Ten Useful WordPress and Webdesign Resources.
